Deck Myself, My Soul With Gladness – Hymn Lyric

Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness,
Leave the gloomy haunts of sadness;
Come into the daylight’s splendor,
There with joy thy render
Unto Christ Whose grace unbounded
Hath this wondrous banquet founded.
Higher o’er all the heav’ns He reigneth,
Yet to dwell with thee He deigneth.

Hasten as a bride to meet Him
And with loving reverence greet Him;
For with words of life immortal
Now He knocketh at thy portal.
Haste to ope the gates before Him,
Saying, while thou dost adore Him,
Suffer, , that I receive Thee,
And I nevermore will leave Thee.

He who craves a precious treasure
Neither cost nor pain will measure;
But the priceless gifts of heaven
to us hath freely given.
Though the wealth of earth were offered,
Naught would buy the gifts here offered:
Christ’s true body, for thee riven,
And His blood, for thee once given.

Ah, how hungers all my spirit
For the love I do not merit!
Oft have I, with sighs fast thronging,
Thought upon this food with longing,
In the battle well nigh worsted,
For this cup of life have thirsted,
For the Friend Who here invites us
And to God Himself unites us.

In my heart I find ascending
Holy awe, with rapture blending,
As this mystery I ponder,
Filling all my soul with wonder,
Bearing witness at this hour
Of the greatness of God’s power;
Far beyond all human telling
Is the power within Him dwelling.

Human reason, though it ponder,
Cannot fathom this great wonder
That Christ’s body e’er remaineth
Though it countless souls sustaineth
And that He His blood is giving
With the wine we are receiving.
These great mysteries unsounded
Are by God alone expounded.

Sun, Who all my life dost brighten,
Light, Who dost my soul enlighten;
Joy the best that any knoweth;
Fount, whence all my being floweth;
At Thy feet I cry, my Maker,
Let me be a fit partaker
Of this blessed food from heaven,
For our good, Thy glory, given.

Lord, by love and mercy driven
Thou hast left Thy throne in heaven
On the cross for me to languish
And to die in bitter anguish,
To forego all joy and gladness
And to shed Thy blood in sadness.
By this blood redeemed and living,
Lord, I praise Thee with thanksgiving.

Jesus, Bread of Life, I pray Thee,
Let me gladly here obey Thee.
By Thy love I am invited,
Be Thy love with love requited;
From this supper let me measure,
Lord, how vast and deep love’s treasure.
Through the gifts Thou here dost give me
As Thy guest in heaven receive me.

Deck Myself, My Soul With Gladness: Finding Joy in Christ’s Love

Oh, how wonderful it is to be filled with joy and leave behind all the sadness! Just imagine stepping into the radiant splendor of daylight, where you can’t but praises to our dear Christ. His grace knows no bounds and it is His grace that has given us this banquet to partake in. Can you believe that the King of all creation chooses to dwell with you and me? It’s astonishing!

Like a bride eagerly awaiting her groom, let us hasten to meet our Savior with reverence and love. He knocks on the doors of our hearts with words of life and immortality. Let us not hesitate to open those doors wide, saying to Him, “Suffer, Lord, that I receive You, and I nevermore will leave You.” What a promise, what a commitment to make! Let us hold onto it tightly.

Just as someone who desires a precious treasure is to go to great lengths to obtain it, we must remember that the priceless gifts of heaven have already been freely given to us by God. No amount of earthly wealth can ever compare to what Jesus offers us. His true body, broken and given for us, His blood shed for our salvation and forgiveness. It’s mind-boggling!

There are moments when my spirit craves this incredible love, even though I know I do not deserve it. The longing for this divine food sometimes fills my heart with sighs. And in those times when I feel like I’m losing the battle, when I’m thirsty for the cup of life, Jesus invites me and urges me to come. He wants to be my friend, to unite me with God Himself. What a remarkable invitation!

As I ponder this mystery, holy awe and rapture fill my soul. I am in awe of God’s power, which surpasses all human understanding. We may try to contemplate and comprehend, but we will never truly grasp how Christ’s body remains while simultaneously nourishing countless souls. And to think that His blood is offered to us in the wine we receive. These mysteries are beyond our human capability to comprehend; only God can fully explain them.

Oh, Sun, You who brighten my life, Light, who enlightens my soul, Joy unsurpassed, and Fount from which my very being flows, I cry out to You, my Maker. Let me be a worthy partaker of this marvelous food from heaven, which You have given for our good and for Your glory. I am forever grateful.

Lord, the love and mercy that compelled You to leave Your heavenly throne and suffer on the cross for me overwhelm my heart. You willingly endured bitter anguish, forsaking all joy and gladness, shedding Your precious blood. And it is through this blood that I am redeemed and now live. With immense gratitude, I praise You, Lord, and offer my thanksgiving.

Jesus, Bread of Life, I humbly pray that I may gladly obey You. Your love has invited me to this sacred feast, and I long to reciprocate that love. May this supper be a measure, Lord, of the vast and deep treasure of love that You have for me. And as Your guest, I pray that You will receive me into Your heavenly abode.

In conclusion, my dear friends, let us deck ourselves, our souls, with gladness as we immerse ourselves in the love of Christ. Let us leave behind all sadness and bask in the radiant splendor of His grace. Remember that we are invited to a wondrous banquet, where the King of all creation desires to dwell with us. How amazing is that? Let us eagerly open our hearts to Him, for He is always knocking, inviting us to partake in the gifts of heaven, freely given. May we never cease to be in awe of these great mysteries, for they are beyond our understanding. And may our hearts overflow with love and gratitude as we partake in this feast, letting Christ’s love through us in all that we do. So, let us deck ourselves, our souls with gladness, for we have found joy in the love of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ.
