O Why Should Israels Sons Once Blessed
O why should Israel’s sons, once bless’d,
Still roam the scorning world around:
Disown’d of heaven, by man oppress’d,
Outcasts from Zion’s hallow’d ground?
O God of Israel, view their race;
Back to Thy fold the wanderers bring,
Teach them to seek Thy slighted grace,
To hail in Christ their promised King.
The veil of darkness rend in twain,
Which hides their Shiloh’s glorious light;
The sever’d olive-branch again
To its own parent stock unite.
Haste, glorious day, expected long,
When Jew and Greek one prayer shall raise,
With eager feet one temple throng,
One God with grateful rapture praise.
