The Sweetness Of A Thousand Tongues

The sweetness of a thousand tongues
Is poured this day in song,
The sweetness of a thousand themes
Its melodies prolong.
No art is needed to awake
The gladness of this day,
Its advent summons all the earth,
Its homage here to pay.

The incense of a thousand souls
Before the mercy-seat,
Is wafted as a fragrant cloud
This welcome day to greet.
Full joyously the voice of praise
Ascends the upper skies,
And borne upon the wings of love
The songs of gladness rise.

The gladness of a thousand hearts
In blest contagion spreads,
And o’er the nations of the earth
Its sweetest radiance sheds.
No art is needed to awake
The gladness of this day,
Its radiance summons all the earth
Its homage there to pay.
