When The Clouds Were Dark Above Me

When the clouds were dark above me,
And I heard the billows roll,
How the loving voice of Jesus
Whispered comfort to my soul!

Onward, then, I’ll move in triumph,
Till I reach the other shore.
There to gather with the faithful,
When the storms of life are o’er.

When the fiercest storms were raging,
And I found no earthly rest,
Then my weary head he pillowed
On his kind and faithful breast. [Refrain]

Let me hear thy voice, my Saviour,
While I tread the vale of life;
Let me hear its tones, so gentle,
‘Mid the conflict and the strife. [Refrain]

Let my spirit gladly follow
Where thou leadest day by day;
When thou callest, blessed Saviour,
Let me never answer, nay. [Refrain]
