While Men Grow Bold In Wicked Ways – Hymn Lyric
While men grow bold in wicked ways,
And yet a God they own,
My heart within me often says,
“Their thoughts believe there’s none.”
Their thoughts and ways at once declare,
Whate’er their lips profess,
God hath no wrath for them to fear,
Nor will they seek His grace.
What strange self-flatt’ry blinds their eyes!
But there’s a hast’ning hour,
When they shall see with sore surprise
The terrors of Thy power.
Thy justice shall maintain its throne,
Though mountains melt away;
Thy judgments are a world unknown,
A deep, unfathom’d sea.
Above the heav’ns’ created rounds,
Thy mercies, Lord, extend;
Thy truth outlives the narrow bounds
Where time and nature end.
Safety to man Thy goodness brings,
Nor overlooks the beast;
Beneath the shadow of Thy wings
Thy children choose to rest.
From Thee, when creature-streams run low,
And mortal comforts die,
Perpetual springs of life shall flow,
And raise our pleasures high.
Though all created light decay,
And death close up our eyes,
Thy presence makes eternal day,
Where clouds can never rise.
Meaning of While Men Grow Bold In Wicked Ways
While men grow bold in wicked ways, it is important to remember that there is still a God who reigns above. Sometimes it may seem like those who indulge in wickedness believe that they can get away with it, but deep down, my heart tells me that they truly believe there is no consequence for their actions.
Their thoughts and actions may declare that they have no fear of God’s wrath and that they do not need to seek His grace. It is baffling to think about the self-flattery that blinds their eyes to the truth. But there will come a time, a hastening hour, when they will see with great surprise the terrors of God’s power.
God’s justice will always maintain its throne, even if mountains melt away. His judgments are beyond our comprehension, like a deep, unfathomable sea. We cannot fully understand or grasp the extent of His righteousness and fairness.
But let us not forget that above the heavens’ created rounds, God’s mercies extend. His goodness knows no bounds and His truth surpasses the limitations of time and nature. That is the beauty of His eternal nature.
In His goodness, God provides safety for both man and beast. Just as His children find rest under the shadow of His wings, He cares for all His creation. Even when creature-streams run low and mortal comforts fade away, there are perpetual springs of life that flow from Him. These springs sustain us and lift our pleasures to new heights.
It is inevitable that all created light will eventually fade and our mortal bodies will close our eyes in death. However, in the presence of God, there is eternal day that never dims. There are no clouds to obstruct our view, no darkness to overshadow His everlasting light.
So, while men may grow bold in their wicked ways, we must remember that God is still in control. Though it may seem that they are getting away with their actions, there will come a time when they will face the consequences. In the meantime, let us find solace in God’s mercies, rest under the shelter of His wings, and trust in His eternal presence. His justice and goodness will prevail, and His love will never cease.
