O Love, How Deep – Hymn Lyric

O love, how deep, how broad, how high,
It fills the heart with ecstasy,
That God, the of God, should take
Our mortal form for mortals’ sake!

He sent no angel to our race
Of higher or of lower ,
But wore the robe of human frame
Himself, and to this lost world came.

For us baptized, for us He bore
His holy fast and hungered sore,
For us temptation sharp He knew;
For us the tempter overthrew.

For us He prayed; for us He taught;
For us His daily works He wrought;
By words and signs and actions thus
Still seeking not Himself, but us.

For us to wicked men betrayed,
Scourged, mocked, in purple robe arrayed,
He bore the shameful and death,
For us up His dying breath.

For us He rose from death again;
For us He went on high to reign;
For us He sent His Spirit here,
To guide, to strengthen, and to .

To Him Whose boundless love has won
Salvation for us through His Son,
To God the Father, glory be
Both now and through eternity.

Meaning of O Love, How Deep

O Love, How Deep: Exploring the Depths of God’s Love

O love, how deep, how broad, how high! These powerful words capture the essence of God’s incredible love for us. It is a love that fills our hearts with ecstasy, a love so immense that it is simply astounding to consider. In this hymn, we are invited to reflect on the profound depth of God’s love for humanity.

Imagine this, my friend: God, the Son of God, willingly took on mortal form for mortals’ sake. He did not merely send an angel or a representative of higher or lower standing. No, He chose to wear the robe of human flesh Himself and came to this lost world.

Why? Because of His love for us. Jesus, the Son of God, was baptized and bore all the burdens and frailties of humanity. He experienced hunger, faced sharp temptation, and triumphed over the evil one just for us! Can you even fathom such devotion and sacrifice?

But it doesn’t stop there, my young friend. Jesus prayed for us, taught us, and worked tirelessly for our sake. His words, signs, and actions were all focused on us, not Himself. He sought to save us from our wickedness and bring us into the light of His love.

And yet, despite His love and goodness, Jesus was betrayed by those whom He came to save. He was scourged, mocked, and dressed in a purple robe of mockery. The weight of the cross upon His shoulders symbolizes the weight of our that He willingly carried to His death. He took our place and gave up His dying breath so that we might live.

But the story doesn’t end there, my friend. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead! Through His resurrection, He conquered death once and for all. And do you know why He did all this? For us, my friend. He did it all for us.

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven, where He reigns as the King of Kings and the Lord of . But He did not leave us alone. He sent His Spirit to guide, strengthen, and cheer us on our journey through life. The Holy Spirit is here with us, walking alongside us, and empowering us to live lives of love and obedience.

Let us give thanks and praise to Him whose boundless love has won salvation for us through His Son! To God the Father, glory be, both now and for all eternity.

In conclusion, my young friend, the hymn “O Love, How Deep” beautifully illustrates the depths of God’s love for us. It is a love that knows no bounds, that goes to unimaginable lengths, and that offers us salvation and eternal joy. May we always remember and cherish this incredible love as we navigate through life, knowing that we are forever held in God’s embrace.
